  • Very rare Japanese Arisaka Type 99 Long Rifle in 7.7x58 Arisaka. This rifle was manufactured by the Imperial Military Nagoya Arsenal, and as such was produced between mid-1940 and early 1941.
  • Designed as an improvement over the older Arisaka Type 38 rifles based on the Imperial Japanese Army's (IJA) experience fighting in China during the 1930s, the Type 99 rifles were rechambered from the original 6.5x50mm cartridge to shoot the more powerful 7.7x58. They also featured an upgraded, stronger action designed to withstand the recoil and force from the stronger cartridge, as well as chrome-lined barrels, anti-aircraft sights attached to the rifle's standard peep sights, and a wire monopod to enable the shooter to target enemy aircraft.
  • Type 99 Long Rifles were the initial production of the Type 99-series rifles, and were only produced for a short time before being replaced by the Type 99 Short Rifle. Only an estimated 38,000 were produced; 30,000 of those being made by the Toyo Kogyo Arsenal (today's Mazda Motor Corporation) and 8,000 being produced by the Nagoya Arsenal. This rifle belongs to the much smaller Nagoya production run, bearing the Nagoya manufacturer's mark on the left-hand side of the reciever. The low serial number (1694) also indicates that the rifle was most likely made relatively early in said production run. As such, these rifles are highly sought after by collectors of Japanese rifles.
  • This particular rifle maintains the original wire monopod and anti-aircraft sights, however the original dust cover is absent. The rifle's chrysanthemum has also been ground off following the Japanese surrender and disarmament undertaken by U.S. forces post-Second World War, however it thankfully has no import markings. The bolt also unfortunately does not match the rifle.
  • The stock has scratches and marks and as such is slightly worn, however it remains in good condition.
