The Springfield Armory M6 Survival Gun is a distinctive American survival firearm, based on the original M6 Aircrew Survival Weapon developed for the United States Air Force during the Cold War. Designed as a compact, lightweight and highly practical emergency firearm, the M6 was intended to provide downed aircrew with a means of hunting small game in remote environments. Its unusual combination of rifle and shotgun barrels, rugged all-steel construction and folding design has since made it a sought-after firearm among collectors.

This example is a Springfield Armory commercial-production M6 Survival Gun, chambered in .22 Long Rifle and .410. Manufactured for Springfield Armory, Inc., and bearing the company's Geneseo, Illinois markings, it represents the civilian version of the original military survival weapon. Unlike the military M6, which was chambered in .22 Hornet and .410 Gauge, the commercial model utilises the more readily available .22 LR cartridge.

This firearm retains its original military-inspired configuration, including the dark phosphate-style metal finish, folding steel stock, ammunition storage compartment, barrel-mounted iron sights and distinctive ring-operated action release. The receiver is clearly marked "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY – M6 SURVIVAL – .22 L.R./.410 SHOTGUN", together with serial number M06657. The opposite side bears the Springfield Armory crossed-cannons emblem and Geneseo, Illinois, USA markings.

In honest, used condition, this rifle displays general handling marks, surface wear and areas of finish discolouration consistent with its age and use.

An increasingly interesting example of American survival firearm design, the Springfield Armory M6 combines Cold War military heritage with an exceptionally practical and unconventional configuration. With commercial production long discontinued, these distinctive combination guns have developed a dedicated following among collectors, particularly those interested in military survival equipment, unusual sporting firearms and compact combination guns.
