Wanted a picatinny rail for a Savage Axis .308. Could not find any clear guidance on internet as to what to buy.
Rebel staff suggested Leupold 171336 Short Action as .308 is SA according to internet wizards. "Try it" they said, " if it is not right return it".
Tried it, too short ( note to internet wizards: .308 is a long action). So returned it in original post pack with Return to Sender on label - their suggestion ( no return postage that way).
Spoke to Rebel staff and asked for the long action Leupold picatinny rail 171338 version. They sent the new version back to me without any additional postage charge.
Long story short - new version 171338 is a perfect fit, very happy. The picatinny rail lifts the scope slightly so bolt action clears scope with a little more finger room, and the rail allows infintely better eye relief adjustment without having to change scope rings (using low mount scope rings). I could have used medium scope rings, without picatinny rail, to get same bolt clearance but still would not have the much improved eye relief adjustment
Got to praise Rebel staff, they did their best to provide right fit first time and did not hesitate to exchange that one for the one that did the job. Return postage suggestion saved me money( and no postage charge for second delivery). And, the delivery times were fast - from ordering, delivery/return/delivery, 7 working days total. Can't complain about that service, we'll done Rebel.
PS: this was a new rifle purchase and at the time of ordering this part had not yet taken delivery of gun so couldn't measure fit details ( hence relying on internet for advice) and Rebel didn't have this model in stock so both parties were working in the blind.
